This is a day when the world (not the Bible) says we show our appreciation to
those we love. You may receive or give the traditional gift of flowers or candy.
Maybe you will get a card. It is always nice to feel loved. Remember Elvis's hit,
"Are You Lonesome Tonight?" Perhaps you are feeling a little lonely today if no
one has said, "I love you" in some way today.
Let me remind you of Paul, who never married, had no children, and just a few
friends. He was sitting in a dungeon one day writing to Timothy. In 2 Timothy 4:6-8
we read of his state of mind: "For I am now ready to be offered , and the time of my
departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept
the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord,
the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also
that love His appearing." Now, you are not in the same stage of life that Paul was in,
but in a way, the Lord gave Paul a Valentine.
In Hebrews 13:5 He reminded Paul, "...I will never leave you, nor forsake you." What a
thought to bear in mind as we travel through, not only this day, but all the days of our lives.
Flowers fade, candy is eaten up, cards get tossed out, but God's Word remains forever.
