What compelling force is behind what you do sometimes? A family member might
ask us to do something and love compels us to oblige. A friend might need us to
be there for him (her). Many times we don't really want to do it, but we do it just
because we want to be kind. Matthew 5:41 is an interesting verse to consider:
"Whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain." Who is doing the
compelling in chapter 5? Jesus! He is asking that we go that second mile,
not just loving neighbors but enemies as well. He is asking that we pray for
those who despitefully use us. We are called by Him to go above and beyond.
That is the Christian's way of life!
