There was a story I read one time of a very interesting business man. He loved
to explore and expand his knowledge. One day he made a very interesting purchase,
a microscope. He immediately began to study things under the microscope. A little
hair, a crystal, parts of flowers. He was astounded by what he found. Like distant
landscapes, he was captivated by the detail and beauty that he found in the lens. As
it went on, he looked for new things to view. One day, as he was preparing for dinner,
he thought he would look at the food he was about to eat. He was shocked, and dismayed
to find living creatures, invisible to the naked eye, crawling throughout his food. Now,
this was his favorite meal. What was he going to do?
His answer was quite simple, he destroyed the microscope that allowed him to make
this troubling discovery.
"Well, that's just crazy", you might be saying to yourself. But, so many do the same
thing with God's Word. They HATE the Bible! They would love to just GET
RID OF IT! You see, it causes them to see THEIR TRUE condition.
James 1:21-27 -
21 Therefore lay aside ALL filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and RECEIVE with
meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
22 But be DOERS of the word, and not HEARERS only, deceiving yourselves.
23 For if anyone is a HEARER of the word and not a DOER, he is like a man observing
his natural face in a mirror;
24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.
25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer
but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.
26 If anyone among you THINKS he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives
his own heart, this one’s religion is USELESS.
27 Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows
in their trouble, and to keep oneself UNSPOTTED from the world.
Do not just LISTEN to the word, and deceive yourself. DO WHAT IT SAYS! Look
INTENTLY into the perfect law that gives LIBERTY, not forgetting what you have heard,
but DOING it! God WILL bless you!
