I read a story one time about a fellow from Sydney, Australia who evidently
liked bicycles. In fact, you might even say he was a bit obsessed. After his
death, the authorities found 435 bikes in his home. It took an entire week
for the police to remove all of the bikes along with various parts. Wheels,
frames and such were everywhere in the house.
This three bedroom house was packed to the gills with bicycles. Some of
them he had gotten through trades, some through bought and the authorities
think that many were even stolen. To say that this man had an obsession
is the understatement of the year! But the focus of this man's life was
quite evident.
We sit back and almost laugh at this obsession. Someone putting such an
emphasis on something like bicycles sounds so ridiculous. But if we
stop for a moment, and think about it, this man is really no different
than those of us who set other material things at the center of our lives.
Matthew 6:19-21
19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust
destroy and where thieves break in and steal;
20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor
rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.
21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
We can also here the voice of God ringing in our ears when we hear
Him say, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose
will those things be which you have provided?’ in Luke 12:20.
Matthew 6:33 puts our minds back into reality when Jesus tells us,
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these
things shall be added to you.
Where are our hearts these days? Have a great day and a safe weekend!
