When ever I go on a trip, I usually take along 3 important things:
My pillow, My bath-sized bar of Dial soap, and my Bible
I’ve learned a long time ago that it’s the little things that make the difference.
For example, I’ve found that those hotel pillows take a while to get used to.
I take my own soap because a six foot man needs more that a microscopic motel soap
splinter to get clean.
And, I carry my Bible because the Gideon Bible provided, doesn’t have the reference
material I like to use for my reading.
Preparation and planning, the little things that make the big differences in life.
1 Timothy 6:6 “Godliness with contentment is great gain”
Lets talk a little about “little things”
1. Who killed Goliath? It was little David. 1 Samuel
2. Who defeated the Midianites, using just 300 men? Little Gideon, who was called while hiding behind a winepress. In Judges
3. Who sent Naamon to Elisha to be healed of his leprosy? A little maid who said if you can get to Elisha, he can take care of you. 2 Kings
4. Who gave his food to feed the 5000? A little boy with a lunch basket. Matt 14
5. Who was presented by Jesus as being “the greatest of all”? A little child. Matt 18
In fact: We are to become like little children!
God uses the little, or less known to do great things. Do any of us today feel we have little to offer to the Lord?
When Jesus came to this earth to dwell among men, He was born to the richest couple in the area.
He used a big palace and lived in the biggest mansion.
NO HE DIDN’T!!!!
No, a little manger. Later He used a borrowed room for His last supper.
God doesn’t need anything big! God needs yielded little things.
A task or service performed may seem little, but as the old saying goes, “If anything is worth doing,
it is worth doing well.”
What’s your task? Taking care of the nursery? Then be the best nursery care taker there is!
Preparing the communion tray? Then do it well!
The Christian story is built around little people in little places doing little job. But, doing them as if
Jesus was looking on – because He is!
Look at what it says in Proverbs 30:24-28
24 There are four things which are little on the earth,
But they are exceedingly wise:
25 The ants are a people not strong,
Yet they prepare their food in the summer;
26 The rock badgers are a feeble folk,
Yet they make their homes in the crags;
27 The locusts have no king,
Yet they all advance in ranks;
28 The spider skillfully grasps with its hands,
And it is in kings’ palaces.
In each case we note not only the little things. We note the preparation and planning.
Have a little faith? Prepare and plan for an increase!
Luke 7:44-48
44 Then He turned to the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered
your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has washed My feet with her tears
and wiped them with the hair of her head.
45 You gave Me no kiss, but this woman has not ceased to kiss My feet since the time I came in.
46 You did not anoint My head with oil, but this woman has anointed My feet with fragrant oil.
47 Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much.
But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.”
48 Then He said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”
“Oh ye of little faith” Jesus said in Matt 6:30
Don’t allow our “little faith” to remain small! Allow it to grow and flourish by increasing our faith
through study and prayer!
