Sometimes, when I pray, I wonder just what the Lord must think of my prayer.
Psalm 4:3 informs me, "But know that the LORD has set apart for Himself him
who is godly; The LORD will hear when I call to Him."

Before I can know if God is listening, I must look at myself to see if I am godly.
How can I know that? John 1:12 says, "But as many as received Him, to them
He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:..."
That's my part: receiving the One who sets us apart by believing in Him. If I believe,
I will obey. If I obey, I will follow what He has commanded me to do. If I follow His
commandments, then I am one of His. It's like an equation, isn't it? Do this and you
will receive that.

We all want our prayers to be heard and to know that God has set us apart unto
Himself. It would be interesting if there were some sort of litmus paper that
determined our shade of godliness. God doesn't need some committee to determine
that, or even some paper. He knows and I, for one, am glad that He is the only one who
will determine whether or not my prayer is answered.
