We spend a lot of time and money on keeping our homes safe and secure. We
are, in a way, prisoners in our own homes with all the locks and barricades we put
up. We want to feel protected. If you think about it, prisoners want to get out. They
don't mind if the guard leaves the door unlocked at night.

I ran across this verse in the Old Testament the other day. Zechariah 9:12 says,
"Return to the stronghold, You prisoners of hope...." We are like those prisoners of
hope because we are prisoners of God. We are in maximum security. Hope isn't
conditional in that we hold on to it. It holds onto us. Those who belong to the
Lord Jesus Christ are free, yet we have a stronghold that surrounds us. We are inside
"hope" and we can't get out of it. Our hope is in God, which is our eternal hope. God
promised us that! We sing a hymn with the line, "safe in the arms of Jesus". I want to
feel free to be me and yet feel protected from the world because I have Christ in my life.
How about you? "You will know the truth and the truth will make you free." (John 8:32)
