I had to go to the dentist a few weeks ago. They had to deaden my gum. It made
my tongue feel like it wasn't mine. It changed the way I talked. Because of that,
I could not help but think of the verse in James 3:8 that says, "But the tongue can
no man tame." I couldn't control how I used my tongue and I felt uncomfortable
about it. We have the same trouble when we have something in our shoe that
makes us walk differently. All my other parts may be working just fine. When one
part is out of sync, it affects the rest of the body.
Proverbs 18:13-15 speaks of that. Verse 15 says, "The heart of the prudent acquires
knowledge, And the ear of the wise seeks knowledge." A hurt foot or a swollen tongue
may change the way we walk or talk. The heart filled with God's knowledge and an ear
filled with God's truth will keep us from walking "funny" or speaking "crazy" talk.
