When I drive from the house to the church building, I have at least 6 red lights
or traffic lights I have to face. I call them red lights because they always seem
to be red when I get there. I used to sit and complain about having to sit and
wait for them to change to green. Now, I've worked out a question to ask
myself at each red light I hit.

The first one is usually asked when I am at the light on Franklin Blvd. What am I
most thankful for today? Not things in general, but today, this very day.
At the next light I ask, "What have I done during the past 24 hours that I know
God was not pleased with?" I have to limit it to 24 hours or I'd be at that red
light until the cars behind me think I've got car trouble. At the next light I ask,
"What would God want me to do today to make a difference in someone's
life?" Then at the next light, "Whom should I pray for this morning?"

You get the idea. It is my way of spending a few minutes with God. I have
to sit there anyway, so why not use that time for something positive in my life.
It helps me understand how God wants me to use my time.

Matthew 22:37 -
There are 3 things covered in that passage. The heart, the soul and the mind.
Think about that for a moment. That's all encompassing. It makes me think of
life being compared to that of a ship. The purpose of a ship is to move across
the sea. It is not designed to stay in the harbor. A ship is made to move. The
total ship is designed to float, but all the parts of that ship by themselves won't
float. The engine for example, if you gently place it in the ocean will sink quickly.
The propeller, even the nuts and bolts used to construct the ship will sink. But put
together, all that heavy equipment will float with ease. So it is with our life.
Our life as a whole, placed on the love of God will carry us with ease. Psalm 95:4-5 -
There is one who is bigger that the oceans, who controls the sea and can make us
secure and unafraid.
