I was recently shown a very interesting and inspiring video. The video was
about a family that worked together. Now, I am not just talking about helping
each other with the household chores. I am talking about an amazing triumph
over adversity. See, David Hoyt helps his son compete in marathons, and
triathlons. They have even biked together 3,735 miles across America.
Now, this could be described as an amazing father/son challenge, but there is
more to the story. You see Rick, David's son, can't walk, or even talk.
At 15 years, after overcoming insurmountable odds in learning to communicate
using a specially designed computer, Rick told his father that he wanted to
enter a five mile benefit run. The marathon he wanted to participate in was not
for research for his own benefit , but for a lacrosse team member who had been
paralyzed.
What an inspirational story, and on so many levels. David peddles, runs
or swims while pushing, pulling or carrying his son. And Rick, who many
would just write off, now is competing with all the others. David and Rick
met with resistance at the beginning, but that has now changed.
Jesus does the very same thing for us. We need help, and Jesus carries us.
We need a friend, and Jesus carries us.We are handicapped by sin, and Jesus
carries us. God has supplied us with everything we need, including someone
to carry us through the worst that life has to offer. He expects us to do the same!
2 Corinthians 5:20-21
20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us:
we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.
21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the
righteousness of God in Him.
Pay attention to those in need this weekend, and all of you days! God will provide all that
you need, even in this good work. Have a wonderful weekend, and we will meet back
here on Monday, Lord willing!
