A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches,
Loving favor rather than silver and gold. (Proverbs 22:1)
Now there is a passage from scripture that is completely contradictory to what
we are taught by everything in the world today. It was not lost on our predecessors
in this country. If you will think back to those old shows like, "Little House on the Prairie",
or "The Waltons" you see that portrayed. Sometimes your good name was all you had.
In today's world, you see the exact opposite being taught. In business you are taught
to have a ruthless reputation. Your success is measured by the size of your bank account,
rather than what really matters. But, here we have the Bible telling us the truth about
what is important. Your good name, and loving favor are more important than anything
material.
That brings to mind Jesus telling us that very same idea in Matthew 6:21 when He said,
"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Set you mind on the things that
really matter. Knowing more about God will put you on your way towards that good name,
and the loving favor. Then you will measure you success on a different scale.
