I grew up in Florida and I have always had an admiration for the palm trees that
grow there. Now that I am older and spend time in Bible study and reading, I see
that the palm tree is mentioned often in the Bible. I did a quick study and I found
that the palm tree has a resilience that helps it stand, even in great storms. It has
a shallow root system, but a tap root that goes into the ground to find water. The life
of the tree is not found on the outside, but on the inside. The coconut that comes from
a mature tree is sweeter than from a younger palm. If you apply these things to the life
of a true Christian, you can see why the Bible mentions the palm tree so often. One of
the many places where it is found is in Psalm 92:12, "The righteous shall flourish like
the palm tree." Revelation 7:9 mentions it as being in the New Heaven. (A multitude
is pictured as holding "palms in their hands". ) Interesting? Grouped together, they
present an oasis for those wandering in the desert.
