What is the most important thing you can do today? Would it be something at
work? At home? No, the most important thing we can do any day is to work on
our relationship with God and with other people. Without that close relationship,
we cannot function as well. Life teaches us that we need bonding in order to
feel good about ourselves. When we have a relationship with God and others,
it makes us feel we mean something to someone else. Jesus listed two columns
of commandments for us. He said column one was we are to love God and then
column two is headed, love your neighbor as yourself. The rest of the commandments
fall under those two headings. Matthew 22:37-40 says, "You shall love the LORD your
God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and
great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as
yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”"
