"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times;" That is the beginning
of the 1859 novel by Charles Dickens. It is also the place where I want to
begin today's JumpStart. As some of you might know by now, we lost my
dear mother, Martha Morton this past Thursday. Truly what, on first glance,
is the worst of times for our family! But, if you knew my mother, you knew
where her mind was. We who are left behind are now faced with a choice.
We can choose to stay in the grief of the worst of times, or we can now
choose to look toward those best of times that we know are awaiting the
true children of God. Ecclesiastes 3 tells us about the time to weep and
the time to laugh, but Solomon also goes on to say in verse 10, "I have
seen the God-given task with which the sons of men are to be occupied."
What are those things that we need to occupy our time with. Well, as
Solomon also said, (vs 13) "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole
matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man’s all."
And then the "why" in verse 14 "For God will bring every work into
judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil."
Mom knew it. Now you do to. Let's get to the work at hand
and prepare to go home.
